I was having a
coaching session today. It was wonderful because we talked about what everyone often feels,
overwhelm and we had some amazing insights to help us feel better about it.
We all feel overwhelmed sometimes in a big city. Because we just have too much to do. There is no magic pill to fix it other than do less. If you are committed to your commitments J like most of us are to make sure we reach out goals, dreams and pay our bills. So what do we do? The options are take stillnox, as my client mentioned. Yes I said that is an option. Not a good one though.
The other option is standing back and taking a thoughtful look at how you manage the inflow of information. What you will let in and what you WILL say no too. It’s really important to realize your brain can only filter just so much. It gets blocked and overloaded. Once that happens, information you let in will radically go on a massive Google search and hook up with its familiar neurons and familiar brain maps where it is accepted, it can make a home and even have a party! That means go crazy with creating feelings associated with those thoughts. Now those feelings can be good ones or bad ones for you. And those thoughts will not just survive but they will thrive at that particular party in your brain. That means they will grow and get BIGGER. Generally run amok where ever they are!
The good stuff gets the same treatment. Those thoughts and ideas will also look for a familiar place to hang out too.
If the negative thoughts have a more friends or let’s say stronger connections in your brain, and by that I mean more of them, then those thoughts and feelings associated with them will be powerful. Managing the flow of information in your day is the key to staying calm and at peace.
The way we feel depends on which party we go to. We go like to go where our friends hang out. The way out of overwhelm is to create awareness of what triggers you to feel stressed and use some self-discipline to say no before you go the best or worst party in town. So say NO!! I am not going to that party!
